Seeing The Light
I decided I needed help. My ego was smashed. The delusions of grandeur were done. The party was over.
I knew in my soul that the only way out was: finding a Power greater than myself.
I channeled my obsessive nature into spirituality.
I worked on a spiritual program like my life depended on it – BECAUSE IT DID.
After years of devoted spiritual work, I became a new man.
What’s the end result?
Living The Dream
One day in Panama, I was walking down the sidewalk and almost fell into the streets when the woman of my dreams walked passed by.
All I could muster was a weak “Hey…” and she kept on walking.
Six months later, on the same street, I’m having lunch and I see her walking by again.
I literally ran up the street to started a conversation with her. After fumbling words with my broken Spanish for a few minutes, she gave me her number.
We started dating, fell in love and the rest is history.
We’ve been happily married for over 4 years.
Every day I feel that I’M LIVING THE DREAM.
I’m married to the woman of my dreams.
Living the lifestyle of dreams.
I make a great living doing what I love with people that I love.
I have an amazing circle of friends.
I live a great country in my dream home: a 6000 sq. foot, 4 floor penthouse with my own pool.
I have better relationships with my friends and family than ever before.
I’m clean and sober and I love it.
But life has a way of testing us sometimes.
Near Death Experience
In November 2013, I went to a great event called Awesomeness Fest. It’s a curated event filled with powerful creators, entrepreneurs and spiritual students.
I received a message from the Universe that told me “Share your gifts with the world”.
What that meant was getting out there. Creating content: articles, books, videos and events.
It meant sharing my experience, strength and hope. Sharing my highlights and low-lights with people.
Little did I know I would come face to face with death the next day.
On November 4th, I flew back to Panama from Awesomeness Fest.
That evening a friend of mine was in town so I headed down to pick him up.
Hop in the SUV, turn the key… NOTHING. The car battery was dead because I left something on before I left.
So I decided to jump in a cab and pick him up.
I finally flagged down a taxi and I saw some guys in the back and asked where were the guys going. He said “don’t worry just I’ll drop you off first.”
Now in Panama, it’s not unusual to share a cab with someone.
“What the hell, let’s go,” I think. BIG MISTAKE.
I sat in the front and immediately after the driver takes off, the guy sitting behind me grabbed my shirt and tried to pin me to the seat.
My self-defense training kicked in. I reacted immediately.
I saw what I needed to do in my head. First: break the guy’s fingers. Second: jump out of the car.
I grab the guy’s fingers and then everything got fuzzy for a few seconds…
I was disoriented. My ears were ringing.
Then I smelled the gunpowder so I knew a gun had went off. I wasn’t sure if I was shot. I wasn’t feeling any pain.
I looked in the back seat and there was a gun pointed at my face.
He said give me the wallet or I’ll shoot you in the face.
So calmly I gave them my iPhone and my wallet and asked if I could keep my IDs Ha ha ha.
I struggled to get my wallet out of my pants as I was bleeding all over.
I handed him the wallet and I asked them to let me go.
Miraculously they just let me get out of the car without shooting me again.
I got out of the car and was bleeding BIG TIME from both hands.
I wasn’t sure exactly where I was shot because it was dark. But fortunately I was only a block from my penthouse.
I checked my body and there were no bullet holes. The bullet had been stopped by my hands and wrist.
I sprinted home (which was probably mistake) because the blood really started pumping out of me.
My wife screamed when she opened the door.
My wife feared the worst. I said I was OK.
I called the ambulance, canceled my credit cards and my date with my friend Glen Ledwell.
I called Glen and said “Sorry bro, I can’t hang out tonight. I just got robbed and shot and I got to go to the hospital.” To which he replied with his Australian accent: “Are you fucking kidding mate?” To say he was shocked would be an understatement HA HA!
As I layed in the hospital, I replayed the events in my head.
Only by the grace of God that I have my hands in the right place. When I turned to grab the hands of the thief, which was on the side of my neck, my hands blocked the bullet.
The bullet cut my left hand as it grazed the side and then entered my right-hand and stopped in the wrist.
Otherwise the bullet would’ve entered my neck – most likely killing me or paralyzing me.
The doctor said the muscle mass in my hands probably saved my life as it slowed down the bullet. God bless weightlifting.
Frankly I am just filled with gratitude that I’m still alive and I can move. My hand is fine. I’ve just lost a little bit of mobility in my right wrist.
